Sarah Velasquez

Mental Health Program Manager

Sarah Velasquez joined the Lubbock Private Defenders Office in February 2021 as a Mental Health Caseworker. After earning her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Lubbock Christian University, she obtained a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

During her master’s program, Sarah worked in a think tank that created and provided psychoeducational trainings over trauma, self-care, child behavioral management, and anger management to local agencies in Maryland. Prior to joining LPDO, Sarah worked with at-risk children and families for eight years.

As a lifelong citizen of Lubbock, Sarah is passionate about uplifting her community through her work as a mental health advocate. She believes that social equity begins when everyone has equal access to mental health resources – resources that are oft-overlooked yet necessary to improve one’s quality of life. When not at work, Sarah enjoys attending local events, thrifting, gardening, and playing with her rescue dogs.
